The Department of Agricultural Economics is one of the leading department of the College which was established in the year 1949 at U.G.level (Affiliated formally Agra University, Agra). Since then it has been actively engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. Later on P.G. classes were started from 1959 in the prestigious department of Argil. Economics. Since then the department is serving this auspicious semi-urban region and imparting quality education in the field of Agriculture economics .Research activities are also going on in the department in different areas viz. Agriculture marketing, Production Resource management, Agriculture finance etc. .

The department also imparts teaching of B.Sc. Ag., M.Sc. Ag. And Ph.D. classes in Agricultural Economics. All the latest teaching techniques are being adopted to teach Graduate & Post Graduate students. During last twenty five years more than 22 students were awarded Ph.D. Degree. More than 325 Student got, M.Sc. (Ag) Degree from this department. A direct link between the students and farmers is done through survey & visiting programme by this department.

The research activities of the department consisted of Farm production analysis, farm business analysis of different districts and economic study on system of storage of paddy, wheat and gur at farm and market level. A study of income and consumption pattern of different categories of rural population, cost and return analysis of important crops, Structure and flow of institutional credit and An enquiry into the marketing cost of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and other important crops, Constraints to Agricultural production in different districts etc. have been under taken. The department has also been engaged in conducting research on production, marketing and storage of vegetable, potato & fruit crops like guava, mango etc.

Master Degree Programme (M.Sc. Ag)
The department offers M.Sc. Ag. Degree in Agriculture economics of the CCS University Meerut. The university conducts semester wise examinations. There are four courses in each semester and in total 16 courses are offered to complete the M.Sc. degree in four semesters. There are 20 seats available in M.Sc. Ag. (Agriculture Economics) and admissions are done on the merit basis:

Course III : Economics structure ,Problems & Planning of Indian Agriculture

Course VII :Research method & Agriculture statistics
Course VIII :Economics of natural resources

Course IX: Agricultural finance & co-operation
Course X : Production resource economics
Course XI :Agriculture policy
Course XII :Agriculture business management
Practical III:Based on above IX-XII theory course
Semester IV:
Course XIII : Agricultural Project-Planning & appraisal
Course XIV: Marketing management for Agriculture
Course XV : Economic Growth and development
Course XVI: Organization behavioural human resource management
Practical IV : Based on above XIII-XVI theory course
Examination & Evaluation
(a) Internal assessment (written tests, quizzes, term papers, home assignments and seminars etc)shall be a continuous process in each semester.
(b) External assessment (Examination at the end of each semester) shall be based on the question papers set by the external examiners.

Bachelor Degree Programme (B.Sc.Ag.)

At UG level four years B.Sc.Ag. Degree programme is available. At UG entry level three sections of minimum 90 students are present. The College admits students on the basis of merit from all sections of the society. The admission rules of the university and the reservation rules of the U.P. Govt are strictly followed.
