DEPARTMENT OF BIOINFORMATICS

DEPARTMENT OF BIOINFORMATICS

Bioinformatics is the field of science in which biology, computer science, and information technology merge to form a single discipline. The ultimate goal of the field is to enable the discovery of new biologicalinsights as well as to create a global perspective from which unifying principles in biology can be discerned. At the beginning of the "genomic revolution", a bioinformatics concern was the creation and maintenance of a database to store biological information, such as nucleotide and amino acid sequences.

The department of Bioinformatics was established as PG in 2007 with Coordinator Dr.P.R. Boora, Co-Coordinator Dr. Rajeshwari Sharma and two faculty members (Smt. Meeta Sharma and Sh. Manoj Kumar Sharma). At the time this subject was incorporated as the first in the colleges affiliated to the C.C.S. University,Meerut. Later, Smt. Meeta Sharma left the department to pursue Ph.D. and Smt.Preeti singh joined. This department is a grooming ground for the talent.

Library

The department has a departmental library. It has 320 volumes covering almost all papers of syllabus. The students have access to library in working hours of all week days.

Excursions and tours:

Excursions are undertaken to develop the interest of students in field of Bioinformatics.

Alumni:

The department is a very young one and has produced only three batches till date. Mr.Navneet Kumar Tomar is working as an research associate in IIT,Delhi, Mr. Sudhansu has joined police department of the state. Miss Kavita is a research scholar at IARI.

Academic Achievements:

All the students of all three batches have passed with first division.

Gold Medals of University:

The students of the department have also excelled in academics. The first Gold medal of the university was awarded to Sarita Chauhan for 2007-2009 batch. The trend continued and other who stood first in the university exams and got Gold is by Priti Tomar for 2008-2010 batch.
