The Department of Industrial Chemistry at Janta Vedic College, Baraut (formerly Jat Vedic College) was introduced in the year 2000 as a vocational undergraduate course, following the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The course was established under the umbrella of the Department of Chemistry, to provide industry-oriented chemical education tailored to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the chemical and allied industries.
The course began operating from the Dr. Harbir Singh Block within the Department of Chemistry. Designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial application, Industrial Chemistry focuses on the practical implementation of chemical principles in industrial settings. This makes it particularly relevant in the present era, aligning closely with the goals and philosophy of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills, thereby enhancing their employability in government, private, and industrial sectors.
The Department of Chemistry itself has a rich legacy, having been founded in 1949, with postgraduate courses introduced in the early 1960s. With continuous infrastructure development and academic upgradation, the introduction of the Industrial Chemistry course marked a significant milestone in the department’s expansion and diversification.
Since its inception, the Department of Industrial Chemistry has benefited from the guidance and academic leadership of a dedicated group of faculty members who served as coordinators and mentors, playing a key role in the course’s development. These include:
Each of these educators contributed significantly to maintaining academic excellence, expanding research opportunities, and fostering an environment conducive to practical learning. With support from other faculty members in the Department of Chemistry, the course has grown in strength, infrastructure, and reputation.
The Department of Industrial Chemistry, established as a vocational course in 2000 under the Department of Chemistry at Janta Vedic College, Baraut, is well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure to support industry-oriented and application-based learning in alignment with modern educational frameworks like NEP-2020.
