The Department of Sociology was established in 1958 and since then it is imparting education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and offering research facilities.

Master Degree Programme (M.A.)
This is a 2-year programme. The courses offered in M.A. Sociology include:
1. Classical Sociological Thinkers
2. Methodology of Social Research
3. Perspectives on Indian Society

Bachelor Degree Programme (B.A.)
This is a 3-year programme. The courses offered in B.A. Sociology include:
1. Introduction to Sociology
2. Society in India: Structure and Change
3. Foundations of Sociological Thought
4. Indian Society: Issues and Problems
5. Social Research Methods
6. Crime and Society

The notable achievements of this department include:
#.More than 50 books are published till date.
#.More that 50 Ph.D degrees have been awarded till date.
#.Currently, 17 students are working as research scholars in different fields of sociology including Family, Cottage Industries, Aging, Status of Women, Youth Culture, Family Planning, Discrimination of Scheduled Castes, Crime, Widow, etc.
#.Undertaken a Minor Research Project on "Parivarik Samyuktata Ki Pravrittiyan: Nagar evam Mahanagar ka tulanamulak Addhayan" — sponsored by UGC
