Department of Economics

The department of Economics was established in 1956 at UG level under Agra university Agra. Later on PG classes were started from 1958 with the objective of promoting post-graduate studies and research in Economics with special thrust on emerging areas in theoretical and applied Economics. The Department of Economics with its team of well- qualified and experienced teachers provides a thorough and in depth training in theoretical and applied economics through its various courses of study. The main objective is to develop skilled manpower capable of analyzing economic problems at different levels of sophistication and suggesting solutions in terms of policy. The students of the department have been well received in the job market and their performance in terms of the success rate at different national examinations has always been above average. It is reflected through their placement in various organizations which include the academic and research institutions at higher level , commercial banks, private corporate business houses etc. We also have an active Ph. D. Programme.

The department has tried its best to keep pace with the ever-expanding frontiers of knowledge. Updating of the courses of studies offered at undergraduate and postgraduate level has been a distinctive features of the teaching programmes of the department. The department’s two year M.A. course, with its large student enrolment, is the mainstay of the teaching programme. It places emphasis on quantitative methods, state-of-the-art economics. Since then the department is serving this auspicious semi urban region and imparting quality education in the field of Economics. Research activities are also going on in different areas viz.Agriculture Economics, Indian Economy, Public Finance, Industrial Economics and Demography etc. We have an enriched list of alumni also.

EXAMINATION & EVALUATION:
Internal assessment (written tests, quizzes, term papers, home assignments and seminars etc.) shall be a continuous process in each semester
weightage 50 marks each paper. External assessment (Examination at the end of each semester) shall be based on question paper set by the external examiner and will be of 50 marks each. One practical course of 100 marks in each semester.

BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMME (B.A.)

This course will consist of six compulsory papers each of 50 marks and total of 300 marks.

TOTAL POST IN THE DEPARTMENT
There are four posts in the department. Two senior lecturers are in working and two posts are vacant. As on date, 22 Ph.D degrees have been awarded from this department. 55 disertation work have been done for completion of M.A.Degree since 1995. Shri Urvendra Kumar have completed refresher courses and orientation courses from Jamia Millia University, New Delhi.
